Website Maintenance and Security
Website maintenance and security are two things that often get overlooked once a new website goes live, understandably, you’re excited to get it out into the world! This page explains exactly what’s covered by 29 Design, what becomes your responsibility, and how to make sure your site stays safe and up to date going forward.
When does my website become “live”?
Your site is considered live once it’s been approved by you, launched publicly, and invoiced. From that point, the project is complete and the site belongs to you.
What’s covered while we’re building your site
During the build, we take care of everything: the design, the development, testing across browsers, and getting the site ready to launch. If anything needs fixing before you sign off, that’s on us.
What becomes your responsibility after launch
Once your website is live, ongoing updates and security become your responsibility, unless you have one of our monthly maintenance or SEO packages in place. This includes things like:
- Keeping plugins, themes and software up to date
- Monitoring for malware, hacking attempts or security vulnerabilities
- Taking regular backups of your site
- Fixing anything that breaks after a software or browser update
Just to be clear, hosting keeps your website online, it doesn’t include ongoing updates or security monitoring. Those are separate, and are either covered by a maintenance package or need to be managed yourself.
Why this matters more than ever
Malware and website attacks have become far more common in recent years, and out of date websites are one of the easiest targets. A neglected plugin or theme can leave the door open without you ever realising it, right up until something goes wrong.
Want this taken care of for you?
If you’d rather not think about any of this, our monthly maintenance and SEO packages cover updates, security monitoring and backups, so your site stays safe without you having to manage it yourself. Get in touch and we can talk through what’s included.
